New threadfin rainbowfish–behavior question?
Today, I got 2 male threadfin rainbowfish. I floated the bag in my 10g QT for about 10 minutes, then netted them out of the bag and added them to the tank. Since then, they’ve been sitting on the bottom, not moving much and breathing heavily (although now their breathing has gotten much better). They’ve also got slightly clamped fins.
Is this just normal stress behavior from their move? It’s been several hours now. When should I start to worry?
There’s good aeration from the filter, with amild current. I added de-chlorinator, and the water’s been sitting for a week The tank isn’t cycled, but they’re only staying there 2 weeks, so it won’t be a problem with frequent water changes and AmQuel.
There’s already a brochis splendens and three corydoras similis in the tank, doing fine. They were added several days ago. I only have one QT ~_~. I did a 25% water change yesterday, and have 0.25 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and 0 nitrate right now. (gonna do another change in a moment)
They will end up in a 20g with the corys, 3 danios, 5 white clouds and maybe some neon tetras.
I was planning on getting 3 females too, but I thought the QT was a bit crowded already. Although I suppose I could add the females now if I’m religious about keeping the water pristine. The rainbows have started to move around a little, so it looks like they’ll be okay. They’re still not 100% yet, though.
Questions on male betta tank mates?
I have a couple questions on male betta tank mates. These options would live in a ten gallon fish tank with a filter and heater
Question one: If i got 6 neon tetras or cardinal tetras (Which tetra is better?) would they fin nip my betta and/or would my betta try to kill them?
Question two: Would my betta prefer just living on his own.( He lives in a five gallon with a filter and heater)
Question three: If the neon tetras don’t fin nip my betta and my betta doesn’t try to kill them could i add a cory cat to the tank without it being over stocked ?
Question four: Would the betta get along with the cory cat?
Would this list make my 30 gallon freshwater tank overcrowded?
6 neon tetras
6 threadfin rainbowfish
6 glass fish (Parambassis ranga – NOT painted)
5 corydoras
4 glowlight tetras
3 bettas (1 male and 2 females- yes they get along)
threadfin rainbowfish are quite small, btw. only about an inch and a half full grown.
the tank is well planted and over 2 years old. currently there are 6 neons and 6 threadfins.
Why is my Silver Zebra Danio chasing Neon Tetras around?
I have a 10 gallon aquarium with:
2 fancy guppies
1 catfish
1 Silver Zebra Danios
4 Neon Tetras
For some strange reason, the Silver Zebra Danio (We named him Sylvester) started chasing any Neon Tetras he gets close to. I thought they all are very compatible with each other and are non-aggressive tropical fish. Why is this happening? What can I do to stop this? I am a beginner aquarium owner.
I feed them twice a day and I just fed them before taking this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OJB8SHm3vE
You can see Sylvester in action in the above video.
I'm a beginner when it comes to fish. I have a Chinese Algae eater and I'd like to get him some tank mates.?
The tank I have is an Eclipse Hex 5 and the water stays at about 79 degrees Fahrenheit. I was thinking of getting a couple of Neon Tetras to put in there, but I’ve read that Chinese Algae eaters can be aggressive. Grover (the Algae eater) has had his own tank now for about two and a half weeks and he’s quite active in there. I don’t want to get him some friends only to come home and find that he’s eaten the other fish because they swam too close to his rock. I’d really like to get a few more fish in there, but the tank is on the small side. I don’t want to be accused of fish abuse for getting a fish that needs more room. Although I’ve heard that Betta fish are great for my style of tank, I do not want a passive fish. I would also like to avoid guppies because of the whole eating the babies thing. Any ideas?
First off, my bad. It’s a Siamese algae eater, not a Chinese. Like I said I’m new to the fish game and I don’t know what I have. I inherited the little guy from a relative who passed recently. He seems to be fine in his tank, but like I said, is there anything friendly that I can put as a tank mate?
