  • easy way is always mined:

do not change the water completely, and let the conditions settle. reduce the lighting and put there some fast growing plants, like java moss, or egeria densa, to compete for the nutrients with the algae that are causing the coloration.

If your tank is sitting in front of a window where it gets light all day long, there is no hope for an algae free tank. Too much light is typically the main problem when a tank is overrun by algae.

If you leave the tank light on all night as a night light, that is another reason algae will grow out of control.

Overfeeding will also contribute to the algae growth. As uneaten food decays it eventually becomes nitrates. This is a major food item for algae and live plants.

Some live plants that will compete with the algae for the nitrates would be a good idea and make the tank look nicer, too.

More information on the tank would be helpful. Email me if you have further questions.

Your tank is probably directed to sunlight, excessive lightning, or over feeding. Never clean your tank completely so that the beneficial bacteria or your fish wont die.
